A Small Garden Without Borders in Marousi

Landscape design

This was a renovation of an old garden consisting of lawn remnants, a hedge, several trees, and containers with various plants. The goal was to reduce water consumption, design a contemporary garden, and infuse it with a sense of airiness and space.

Because the garden is situated as a narrow strip along the northern side of the house, an old Viburnum tinus hedge—5m high and 2m wide—blocked the sun and created a tunnel effect. Over two years, we gradually reshaped it into a lower, more structured form.

The garden lacked pathways, and access was limited to the house's perimeter paving. We replaced the lawn with gravel pathways and small low-water shrub communities. To 'brighten' the garden, we used shrubs with light and variegated foliage. The gravel pathways provided a sense of space and freedom of movement.

The sunniest spot in the garden was transformed into a small meadow of ornamental grasses and herbs.

The owner of the garden had numerous containers with very diverse yet sentimental plants—some planted by her mother, others gifted by her son, or simply ones she fell in love with... We treat our clients' affection and memories with the utmost care. We found a place for every single one of them in the new garden.

We continue to care for this garden and will guide its ongoing development. Our goal is to make the garden's boundaries 'invisible,' to blur the space, and to cultivate a feeling of endless nature all around.
